About the role

As Wastewater Process Engineer, you will contribute to process design, optimization, and technical implementation of CREW’s process intensification and carbon removal systems at wastewater treatment facilities. You will use your knowledge of process modeling and engineering, aqueous chemistry, and wastewater operations to design and optimize dosing systems that achieve both treatment efficiency and measurable greenhouse gas.

You will play a key role in translating CREW’s scientific and engineering innovations into scalable, real-world systems. You will analyze and interpret lab and operational process data from CREW’s deployments to identify opportunities and drive actionable improvements. This will include designing and refining process flow diagrams, developing mass and energy balances, supporting demonstration and full-scale deployments, troubleshooting process performance in the field, documenting protocols, and driving customer success at partner sites.

Responsibilities

  • Lead process optimization for CREW’s process intensification and carbon removal systems in wastewater applications, and contribute to system design improvements.
  • Develop process flow diagrams, mass and energy balances, and dosing system designs to meet project goals.
  • Conduct process modeling and performance simulations using relevant software.
  • Collaborate with the Science and Operations teams to translate lab results and field data into scalable process parameters.
  • Troubleshoot process issues during operation and propose technical solutions.
  • Serve as a technical lead in partner engagements, helping ensure our partners are satisfied and confident in system performance.
  • Partner with our Operations team to ensure process reliability and alignment with process optimization and carbon removal targets.
  • Provide technical documentation, training, and design input to internal teams and external partners. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, standardization of design templates, and lessons-learned captured across deployments.
  • Stay current on emerging trends in wastewater treatment, process intensification, and environmental technology.

Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (required) in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field; a Master’s or PhD degree is a bonus.
  • 3–7+ years of experience in wastewater process engineering, process design, or related fields (municipal or industrial).
  • Strong understanding of wastewater treatment processes, including nutrient removal, solids handling, and pH and alkalinity control.
  • Experience developing and reviewing PFDs, P&IDs, site layouts, and mass balance calculations.
  • Familiarity with process modeling tools (BioWin, SUMO, GPS-X, MATLAB, or equivalent).
  • Comfortable working in a rapidly evolving startup setting and able to quickly synthesize new information to proactively adjust focus and maintain high-impact results

Bonus Qualifications

About the role

As the Science Team Manager, you will oversee the R&D and operations of the science team. This role requires a fundamental understanding of carbonate chemistry, experience in natural and engineered systems,, and a strong scientific aptitude. A successful candidate will have extensive experience leading scientific teams and providing operational oversight to ensure the delivery of high-quality data analysis, method development and experimental execution. This role will work closely with CREW Carbon’s world-class Scientific Advisors and CEO to define scientific priorities, mentor science team members, and drive CREW’s mission through innovative research and rigorous analysis. A key component of this role will deepen the scientific impact of alkalinity enhancement in wastewater as well as other applications, such as agriculture and rivers.

A successful candidate will continue to position CREW Carbon as a leader in the carbon removal industry, expanding our reach and impact. Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor the science team, fostering a culture of collaboration, learning, and excellence.
  • Set the strategic direction for scientific research programs, ensuring alignment with CREW’s technology goals and carbon removal verification requirements.
  • Oversee laboratory and field operations, including protocols, SOPs, equipment use, troubleshooting, safety, data management, and data quality control.

Experience Requirements

  • PhD in geochemistry, biogeochemistry, environmental sciences, chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience managing and leading a scientific team, ideally within a field and lab research environment.
  • Strong proficiency in analytical chemistry techniques (e.g., ICP-MS, ICP-OES, IC, and TIC Analyzer) and experience with statistical programming and geochemical modeling (e.g., Python, R, MatLab, PHREEQC).
  • Extensive experience in conducting field and lab research, including designing and executing experiments, collecting samples, and performing data analysis.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 lbs and adapt to dynamic, fast-paced startup environments.

About the Role

CREW is seeking an experienced and well-connected water/wastewater professional who combines deep technical acumen with curiosity and commercial drive to join our team as Business Development Manager – Wastewater. You will play a key role in expanding CREW’s footprint in the wastewater industry, from identifying opportunities and building relationships with utilities and strategic partners to guiding opportunities through the business development cycle toward signed agreements and successful deployments.

This is a high-impact role for a self-starter who thrives in dynamic environments, enjoys working with wastewater utilities and is excited about the intersection of water, climate, and technology. You’ll work closely with the Commercial Strategy Lead, as well as our Engineering, Operations, and Science teams. You’ll also leverage key external partners, including water technology companies, engineering consultants, and mineral suppliers to accelerate growth. 

Your work will help to continue positioning CREW Carbon as a leader in the water technology and carbon removal industries, expanding our reach and impact. 

This position is a full-time role. Location is onsite at our office in Brooklyn, NY or remote in the Northeast or Eastern U.S., near major utilities and transportation hubs.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and qualify new opportunities with municipal wastewater utilities and industrials 
  • Own and develop the business development pipeline: site visits, discovery calls, capability presentations, site assessments, and proposal development.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Engineering, Operations, Science) to develop business cases, leverage high-level financial models, and help build preliminary technical assessments to support decision-making
  • Build and nurture strong relationships with decision-makers at utilities, consulting engineers, and strategic partners.
  • Develop insights into customer pain points, procurement processes, and industry trends to help refine CREW’s GTM and commercial strategy.
  • Negotiate key commercial terms and close opportunities in alignment with CREW’s partnership model.
  • Represent CREW on-site with prospects, customers, and at industry conferences (expect 50–75%+ travel).

Experience Requirements

  • A degree in engineering or a relevant scientific field is required or a degree in a business discipline if the candidate has extensive previous work experience in a comparable role. Degrees in environmental engineering or chemical engineering are preferred.
  • 3-5+ years experience in wastewater, environmental services, or engineering consulting
  • 1-3+ years experience in business development, technical sales, or go-to-market roles. Experience with startups or technology companies is highly preferred.
  • Proven ability to navigate complex sales cycles and work with municipal utilities and consulting engineers.
  • Excellent communication skills—strong written, verbal, and presentation abilities.
  • Technical aptitude and ability to communicate complex processes in simple, compelling ways.
  • Strong relationship-building, trust-building, and negotiation skills.

As CREW’s Data Engineer, you will lead the architecture, development, and scaling of CREW’s data platform in collaboration with the Science, Product, and Operations teams. 

You will play a key role in designing and implementing robust, enterprise-scale data infrastructure that serves as the backbone for carbon removal verification (MRV), operations optimization, and scientific analysis across multiple deployment sites. You will be responsible for building scalable, reliable data pipelines to ingest, process, and standardize diverse data streams from instruments, partner utilities, and SCADA systems, while establishing and enforcing data governance and quality standards that ensure accuracy, reliability, accessibility, and compliance with carbon crediting requirements.

Your work will accelerate CREW’s data velocity and reliability, cementing our position as a leader in the carbon removal industry as we expand in scale and impact. This is an ideal opportunity for a detail-oriented, mission-driven engineer with experience building production-grade data infrastructure for complex, multi-site operations in climate, environmental, or utility contexts.

This position is a full-time role. Location will be remote, working East Coast hours, with optional hybrid work out of our offices in Brooklyn, NY or New Haven, CT.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain CREW’s enterprise-scale data platform, ensuring scalability, reliability, and reproducibility across multiple teams and projects.
  • Own data governance, naming standards, and metadata standards across CREW’s data infrastructure.
  • Build and maintain processing workflows for existing and new measurement streams, improving automated QA/QC processes to check, validate and audit data.
  • Stand up a secure, accessible cloud database with reliable ingestion, transformation, and retrieval paths; implement data security, backup, and cost controls.

  • Fluent in Python and SQL; comfortable with schema design, time-series data, and scientific instrument files.
  • Built and operated data pipelines/orchestrated workflows on cloud resources (AWS, GCP).

About the Role

CREW is seeking a highly motivated Wastewater Technology & Research Scientist to execute lab and field-based operations and research. This role will involve successfully executing benchtop and plant-scale experiments, designing experimental approaches, generating and interpreting empirical data, and utilizing existing data sets to optimize our carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technology and quantify its impact on wastewater treatment processes. This role is ideal for someone with experience applying wastewater process design or environmental chemistry in both the field and in the lab. You will play a critical role in refining CREW’s enhanced weathering process in wastewater to ensure analytical rigor while supporting our mission to optimize wastewater treatment for removing CO2.

This is a hands-on role, requiring the initiative to take ownership of projects, drive experiments forward, and provide insights that help scale our technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Laboratory Research & Instrumentation:
    • Design, execute, and refine lab and field experiments to analyze nitrogen cycling, carbonate chemistry, and aqueous and solid mass balance in wastewater settings.
    • Run and maintain analytical instruments (e.g., ICP-MS, IC, TOC analyzers, spectrophotometers) for high-precision chemical measurements.
    • Maintain existing SOPs.
  • Field Work & System Optimization:
    • Conduct on-site sampling and in-field measurements under varying environmental conditions.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Work closely with scientists, engineers, and project managers to ensure seamless integration of lab and field insights
    • Create visual representations of data and communicate findings clearly through reports, presentations, and technical documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in Wastewater Treatment, Process Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Chemistry, Biogeochemistry, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in mass balance modeling (BioWin, GPS-X, or SUMO).
  • Proficiency in visualizations to interpret and present data to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of biological nutrient removal (BNR), including nitrification/denitrification, phosphorus removal, and the technologies utilized in wastewater plants to support BNR.
  • Understanding of chemical and physical treatment in municipal and industrial wastewater. 
  • Experience in carbonate chemistry, or biochemistry in the context of wastewater.
  • Hands-on experience operating and maintaining laboratory instrumentation for biological and chemical analysis.
  • Strong willingness to work in the field under demanding conditions and adapt quickly to new environments.
  • Ability to take initiative and be the first to raise a hand to solve problems and lead analytical efforts.

Bonus Qualifications

  • M.S. or PhD a relevant field.
  • Experience deploying and testing environmental technologies in municipal or industrial processes.
  • Proficiency in qPCR and gene sequencing bacteria profiling.
